Obituary: Coral Anne McNey Link, long-time employee of Alfred University

It is with great sadness that the family of Coral Anne McNey Link shares her passing on Monday, November 4, 2024 from complications resulting from cancer treatment. She was surrounded by family. Until the end of her life, Coral maintained her love of family and friends, sense of humor, connection with those around her, and appreciation for her long life, filled with wonderful memories and experiences.

She was preceded in death by her beloved parents, Edward and Helen McNey and leaves behind her husband of 51 years, Sergeant First Class (ret) Ronald H. Link, daughters Coral Lee Bishop (Eric) and Lauren Link (Tim Yergens) and sons Michael Link (Tammy Maloney) and Benjamin Link (Kathryn). While there is no question about the love she showered on her children, Coral’s grandchildren were the light of her life. Her spirit will forever remain with Easton Welch, Aidan Link, Iris Link and Avery Link. Coral is also survived by her younger brother Edward Patrick McNey (Pamela), nephew Aaron McNey (Jess), niece Emily Wood, and their children, Claire McNey, Laurel Wood and Carter Wood; cousin Jon Paul Cary (Jennie) and many relatives and dear friends in upstate New York, Georgia, Arizona and Washington. None will forget the love and joy she brought to their lives.
Coral was born in Hornell, NY and raised in Wellsville, NY where she graduated from high school. She later attended the University of Buffalo and Alfred University, where she received her Master’s degree. A long-time employee of Alfred University, Coral worked in the university library, as a secretary in the College of Ceramics and ultimately as the Director of Short Course programs offered by the College of Ceramics. She ended her career as an education and career counselor for Cattaraugus-Allegany BOCES, splitting her time between the Belmont and Olean offices.
As per Coral’s request, no funeral will be held. A private family memorial will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Alfred Station Volunteer Fire Company.
Funeral arrangements are with the Bender-Brown & Powers Funeral Home in Hornell.
