Allegany County Sheriff's office makes changes after deputy tests positive for COVID-19

An Allegany County deputy Sheriff has tested positive for COVID-19 and is now at home under quarantine. Sheriff Rick Whitney told The Spectator that the deputy was likely exposed by a previously diagnosed family member and not while working at the Jail and Public Safety Facility on State Route 19. No other deputy or jail inmate has tested positive for COVID-19, the sheriff said. According to The Spectator, Allegany County has temporarily suspended accepting federal prisoners and the 911 staff has been split…some work at the new facility and others work at the older dispatch center in the county office building. Whitney added he has made some other operational changes and is attempting to implement social distancing as much as practical.
