BELMONT, NEW YORK – Cornell Cooperative Extension of Allegany County’s Agriculture Program is excited to announce:
2019 Allegany County Fair Youth Sheep Show ResultsLynn Bliven, Agriculture & Natural Resources Issue Leader
Tuesday, July 16th youth exhibitors showed off their sheep projects at the Allegany County Fair. The contest is an opportunity to be rewarded for the months of hard work caring for and training their animals.
In the Senior Showmanship division, Carissa Hilsher with a first place finish received a blue ribbon along with a bucket sponsored by Nicholson Pharmacy Belmont, NY. Caro Ando, Rachel March and Cole Armison also awarded a blues.
For the Junior Showmanship Sarah Wilson topped the class followed by Caleb Hilsher, Sara Armison and Jim Eshelman. Sarah received a bucket sponsored by Bugman & Son Dalton, NY.
There were six participants in the novice divisions, each of these first year exhibitors awarded a blue ribbon. First blue to Luke Wilson followed by Jeffery Wilson, Harlee Ando, Collin Wilson, Ben Eshelman and Mason Findlay. Luke received a showman harness sponsored by the Wilson Family Canaseraga, NY.
The top from each divisions competed for Grand Champion Showman. This year’s winner Sarah Wilson received award sponsored by General Roofing of Wellsville, NY. Reserve Grand Champion Showman, Cara Ando received award sponsored by Alfred State College.
Three divisions in the market lamb program, starting with light weight. The class split with 4 blues and 4 red ribbon lambs. Receiving blues: Luke Wilson, Donation Lamb, Collin Wilson, and Cole Armison; red ribbons to Rachel Marsh, Caleb Hilsher, Ben Eshelman with 2 entries.
Harlee Ando placed first blue in the medium weight class followed by Sarah Wilson and Carissa Hilsher also receiving blues. Red ribbons awarded to Sara Armison, Jim Eshelman and Rachel Marsh.
Heavy weight lambs exhibited by Cara Ando, Jeffery Wilson, Carissa Hilsher and Caleb Hilsher all receiving blue ribbon awards.
Grand Champion Market Lamb sponsored by Dave’s Printing Belmont, NY exhibited by Harlee Ando. The Reserve Grand Champion Market Lamb sponsored by Alfred State College was awarded to Cara Ando.

In the breeding sheep division Grand Champion Ewe, sponsored by the Wilson Family, exhibited by Sarah Wilson. Reserve Grand Champion Female, sponsored by the Wilson Family, exhibited by Jeffery Wilson. Grand Champion Flock exhibited by Jeffery Wilson was sponsored by Lakewood Veterinary hospital in Rushford, NY. Additional breeding sheep exhibited by Luke Wilson and Collin Wilson, all receiving blue ribbons.
This year’s judge for the show was Max Peterson from Kennedy, NY; he has raised completive market lambs at county, state and national level. He provided individual tips and encouragements for each youth as he places classes. Again, the youth were complimenting the high quality of sheep shown in both market and breeding classes. A successful show to round out the day.
