The Scio Lion's Club Pavilion at Fireman's Park at Scio, along with the adjoining Scio Central School children's play area, will be the site for a free Saturday, August 3, Community Picnic for area residents and their families, hosted by Knights Creek Church. Games, music, and an opportunity for individuals to try a musical instrument also will be available at the event
SCIO -- A local church is hosting its second annual Community Picnic in August for area residents of all ages at Fireman's Park in the hamlet. Knights Creek Church will hold the event from noon to 3 p.m. Saturday, August 3, in the Scio Lion's Pavilion at the park on Vandermark Road (County Road 10), across from Silo Central School. A dish-to-pass or dessert is welcome but not necessary.  The facility is handicapped-accessible.
Pastor Carl Kemps aid the activity is being repeated due to the success of the first event last year.
It is designed to bring together community residents and area families for a meal, fun and fellowship, he said, and will feature games, along with music by David Peralta, the church's music missionary and a member of the world-class Simon Bolivar Venezuelan National Symphony Orchestra.
Musical instruments also will be available for children and adults to try, and the Scio Central School children's play area adjoins the site.  Teens also will be able to obtain a free copy of The Life Book which has been distributed nationally to more than 33 million youth since its first printing 10 years ago.
Information will be available on the myriad of community activities the church hosts regularly every week, month and annually, including its youth group for children, teens and young adults on Friday nights and The Landing ministry for teens on Saturday nights for the large percentage who need support for life issues, including isolation, anxiety, depression, bullying, school pressures, negative self-image, relationship issues and more.
In addition to the picnic, the church offers a free Community Dinner after weekly services on Sundays that is followed by free music lessons, conducted by appointment by Peralta, for children and adults.  It also offers dinners or picnics on special occasions such as Valentine's Day, St. Patrick's Day, Easter, Memorial Day, July 4th, Labor Day, Back to Church Sunday in September, Thanksgiving and Christmas.  Birthdays and anniversaries for both congregants and community residents are celebrated the fourth Sunday of each month.

Described as "The Country Church with the Heart of Christ," Knights Creek holds community prayer from 6:30 a.m. to 7:30 a.m. each weekday for anyone who has concerns for which they would like to receive prayer, along with local, county, state, national and world concerns, a 6 p.m. service on Sundays, and a 7 p.m. Wednesdays Bible study.
The large percentage of people who struggle with the burdens of life, including various times of trauma, are of major concern to the Knights Creek Church family, Pastor Kemp said, noting that many supports are provided throughout the year to aid those in need.
The most visible is the weekly Celebrate Recovery/Celebrate Victory group that is held from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. Saturdays for adults of all ages who are struggling with any type of hurts, hangups, habits or struggles, including common addictions.  Church facilitators also are part of a team that goes into Allegany County Jail on Tuesday nights to present Celebrate Recovery Inside to inmates, thereby enabling a learning and understanding connection and better support between those who are incarcerated and their families and friends on the outside.  The Landing for teens also is part of that same ministry as the church seeks to develop more comprehensive ministries for families.
Sunday mornings, from 9:45 a.m. to 10:30 p.m., teen and adult life groups explore various life issues through various series which have included "Life's Healing Choices," "What On Earth Am I Here For?" "How to Get Through What You are Going Through," "When God's People Pray," and "Transformed - How God Changes Us."  In August, the church will start to explore "Experiencing God - Knowing and Doing the Will of God" by Henry Blackaby, an influential international evangelical pastor who draws upon experiences of his small church that has had a transformational impact not only locally but around the world.  Times are designed to allow individuals from other churches to attend these life-impacting lessons and still have time to get back to late morning services at their own churches.
During the year, Knights Creek provides "Help Grieving Children" for adults and "Loss of a Spouse" seminars for those who have experienced the death of a mate, with Grief Share and Divorce Care "Surviving the Holidays" sessions being offered during the Thanksgiving to      Congregants also are active with the Hope Center multi-church outreach in Wellsville, the Journey to Transformation initiative for community transformation and revival, and other activities developed to bring Allegany County churches together to help meet the needs of individuals and families within their congregations and communities.
