Highway Bridges in the Town of Bath Will Be Renamed In Honor of State Trooper Who Tragically Lost His Life in the Line of Duty

Governor Andrew M. Cuomo today signed legislation (S.05484-B/A.07577-B) naming a portion of the State Highway System in Steuben County in honor of Trooper Nicholas F. Clark. The bill specifically designates the bridges on interstate 86 in front of the NYS Police Barracks in Bath, NY where Trooper Clark was stationed as the "Trooper Nicholas F. Clark Memorial Bridge."

"Trooper Clark dedicated his life to selflessly serving his community and protecting his neighbors and the family of New York continues to mourn his loss and his sacrifice," Governor Cuomo said. "This recognition will help ensure his service and bravery is never forgotten."

On July 2, 2018, Trooper Nicholas F. Clark tragically lost his life in the of duty. Trooper Clark graduated from the New York State Police Academy in 2015 and was stationed in Ithaca, Auburn and Bath, NY.

Senator Tom O'Mara said, "We appreciate Governor Cuomo signing this legislation into law. It is our hope that this action will stand as lasting tribute and testament to the life, service, and ultimate sacrifice of this local hero. We hope that it will help to express the collective respect of our local community, our entire region, and the State of New York. We envision the 'Trooper Nicholas F. Clark Memorial Bridge' as an enduring honor to Trooper Clark, and a reminder to future generations of his courageous service and meaningful life."

Assembly Member Philip Palmesano said, "Trooper Nicholas F. Clark was a hero who paid the ultimate sacrifice to keep us safe. This designation is a fitting tribute to honor him and his dedicated service and sacrifice for all of us. The naming of this bridge, adjacent to the Trooper Barracks where he was stationed, is also an important way for us to say thank you to the Clark family for their sacrifice and to ensure them that Trooper Clark's service and sacrifice will always be remembered and never forgotten."
