2019 Allegany County Fair Youth Beef Show

BELMONT, NEW YORK – Cornell Cooperative Extension of Allegany County’s Agriculture Program is excited to announce:

2019 Allegany County Fair Youth Beef Show ResultsLynn Bliven, Agriculture & Natural Resources Issue Leader
Tuesday, July 16th youth exhibitors showed off their beef projects at the Allegany County Fair. The contest is a culmination of a year plus of hard work caring for and training their animals.
In the Senior Showmanship division, Kelsey Pierce with a first place finish received a blue ribbon along with a bucket sponsored by the Stone Family from Fillmore, NY; Caitlin Stewart second blue and Cole Armison awarded a red ribbon.
Intermediate Showmanship 1st blue to Kadin Pierce who also received a bucket sponsored by the Livestock Committee. Additional blue winner winners: Gianna Loiacono and Madison Morehouse. First red to Kyla Jozwiak.
For the Junior Showmanship Sarah Wilson topped the class followed by Shane Ploetz and Huntar Hint all received blue ribbons, Sarah received a bucket sponsored by Dave’s Printing Belmont, NY.
There were three participants in the novice divisions, each of these first year exhibitors awarded a blue ribbon.  First blue to Jeffery Wilson followed by Luke Wilson and Mason Findlay. Jeffery received a showman harness sponsored by the Wilson Family Canaseraga, NY.
The top from each divisions competed for Grand Champion Showman. This year’s winner Kelsey Peirce received award sponsored by Bugman & Son of Dalton, NY. Reserve Grand Champion Showman, Sarah Wilson received award sponsored by Alfred State College.
Following the showmanship market classes were held. Starting with the Medium Weight Division: blue ribbon awarded to Kadin Pierce and Luke Wilson, red ribbon to Sarah Wilson.
Heavy Weight blue ribbons winners exhibited by Kelsey Pierce, Kadin Pierce and Cole Armison; red ribbon to Jeffery Wilson.
Grand Champion Market Beef sponsored In Memory of Sarah Beiler exhibited by Kelsey Pierce. The Reserve Grand Champion Market Swine sponsored by Nicholson Pharmacy Belmont, NY was awarded to Kadin Pierce.

In the breeding beef division Grand Champion Female, sponsored by Twisted Acres – Harmon Family, awarded to Junior Yearling exhibited by Shane Ploetz. Reserve Grand Champion Female, sponsored by Wild Geese farm, awarded to Cow/Calf pair exhibited by Mason Findlay. Grand Champion Bull awarded to senior bull calf and Reserve Grand Champion Bull to the junior calf both exhibited by Mason Findlay. Awards sponsored by Allegany County Farm Bureau and Ron & June Freeman. Additional breeding beef exhibited by Gianna Loiacono, Kyla Jozwiak, Caitlin Stewart, Jeffery Wilson and Sarah Wilson all receiving blue ribbons.  
This year’s judge for the show was Eric Bond from Gowanda, NY; a swine breeder having judged for 11 years traveling across Central and New England States. Where he operates a cow/calf farm focused on Club Calves and purebred production. He provided positive feedback and tips for youth as he places classes throughout the day complimenting the high quality of animals shown. Congratulations to all the youth on a successful show.
