GENESEO, NY - The perioperative nursing team at UR Medicine
| Noyes Health’s Ambulatory Surgery Center in Geneseo took an official “time
out” on Wednesday, June 12, as part of a national initiative to increase
patient safety in the operating room. The staff marked the Association for periOperative
Registered Nurses (AORN) “National Time Out Day” with cake and, more
importantly, with a recommitment to a culture of safety.
“We work hard every day to take care of our patients as best
we can,” says Jessica Porter, RN, nurse manager at Noyes’ Ambulatory Surgery
Center, “Celebrating “Time Out Day” is just a way of reminding us to take a
“time out” before each surgery to prevent wrong-site, wrong-procedure or
wrong-patient surgeries.”
