Alfred Station Fire dismayed over betrayal by New York State

ALFRED STATION FIRE COMPANY CALLS FOR HELP
The Alfred Station Fire Company under the direction of Chief Bryan Dodge and President Keith Stanley recently placed a new tanker into service. In keeping with the department’s requirements to maintain a fleet of fire vehicles that meet the needs of the communities served, Alfred Station has purchased a 2017 Freightliner tanker, built by Camions Hélie of Joliette, Québec, Canada. This new tanker, designated Alfred Station 7, is equipped with a 750 gallon per minute pump and holds 3,600 gallons of water. It replaces the former Alfred Station 7, a company-built truck which carried a 2,800 gallons of water. Robert Halsey, a twenty-five year veteran of the company and past-chief, serves as Captain of new Alfred Station 7.
To assist in the purchase of this tanker, the fire company wrote and received a $75,000 state grant from then Senator Cathy Young. However, with the Senator’s resignation, her office has not delivered on the grant. Unfortunately, this has forced the Alfred Station Fire Company to take an unanticipated loan to cover the full cost of the purchase, and has delayed other equipment updates. While the company is very excited to place this tanker into service in the community, they are disappointed the promised grant funds have failed to arrive. This tanker would not have been purchased without the commitment of state funds – a commitment the New York State Senate is no longer standing by.
Interested individuals are encouraged to contact the now vacant 57th Senate District Office (address: 700 W. State Street Westgate Plaza, Olean, NY 14760, phone: 716-372-4901, e-mail: dist57@nysenate.gov), or any senate candidates on Alfred Station’s behalf. Additionally, donations would be greatly appreciated by the volunteer firefighters of the Alfred Station Fire Company (Post Office Box 282 – Alfred Station, NY 14803).
