State Troopers responded to 20 Townsend Ave Corning for a suspicious, deadly fire

On Tuesday New York State Troopers responded to 20 Townsend Ave. in Corning for a suspicious fire.  Fire departments from the City of Corning, Painted Post and Gang Mills responded to the scene, as well as EMT's from the AMR Ambulance Service.  As a result of the fire, an 82-year-old resident in the house succumbed to injuries she sustained while trapped inside.  The subsequent investigation resulted in the arrest of Justin L. Gause, age 21, of Corning, NY, who was charged with Manslaughter 2nd degree (a class “C” felony), Reckless Endangerment 1st degree (a class “D” felony) and Unlawful Manufacturing of Methamphetamine 3rd degree (a class “D” felony).  Gause is being held at the Steuben County Jail pending centralized arraignment today. The cause of the fire is currently under investigation by the Steuben County Fire Investigation Team and several items involved in the production of methamphetamine inside the home were remediated by the New York State Police Contaminated Crime Scene Emergency Response Team.  The New York State Police were assisted at the scene by the Corning City Police Department, Painted Post Village Police Department and the Steuben County Sheriff’s Office.  The investigation is ongoing.
