Man burned in Birdsall structure fire

Several fire departments were pressed into service shortly after 10 a.m. today for a structure fire near 9189 County Road 15B in Birdsall. Radio reports indicated an elderly man sustained facial and head burns and possibly smoke inhalation. He was transported to Jones Memorial in Wellsville where a Mercy Flight crew was on standby. He was later flown to Strong Memorial in Rochester. Attacking the flames were fire crews from Birdsall, Canaseraga, Short Tract, Angelica, Belfast and FAST Team 1. Multiple ambulances were also brought in. The fire was declared under control at 11:27 a.m. and out at 11:39 a.m. Some fire units were clearing the scene at noon. Fire investigators were brought in to determine the cause.
