Richard D. Nelson, 98, of Wellsville, NY, formerly of
Coudersport, PA, died Saturday, March 16, 2019 in Wellsville Manor Care
Center. Born August 24, 1920, in
Woodville, PA, he was the son of Clayton and Annabelle Higley Nelson. A World War II Veteran, he served honorably
from 1946 -- 1947. On October 31, 1948,
in Wellsville, he married the former Dorothy J. Sutton, who predeceased him on
November 27, 2012. He was employed by National
Fuel and then Clark Brothers/Dresser-Rand in Olean, NY until retirement. Richard was well known for his skill as a
hunter, receiving recognition several times for bagging Potter county’s largest
buck and bear. He was a collector of all things.
Surviving are: a son, Richard C. Nelson of Coudersport; four daughters, Janet (Vern) Vergason of
Oswayo, PA, Donna Jean (Charles) Collins of North Chili, NY, Joy (Terry) Klimek
of Coudersport, and Sharon (Gary) Jones of Wellsville; 13 grandchildren; many great-grandchildren; and nieces and nephews. In addition to his wife, he was predeceased
by an infant son, Lloyd James Nelson; two great-grandsons, Skye and Alex; seven siblings, Alberta Dunn, Leona G.
Nelson, Arthur Nelson, Robert Nelson, Donna Dunn, Della Schoonover, and Lena
Nelson; and a daughter-in-law, Joyce L.
Nelson. Friends may call at Olney Funeral Home & Cremation Service,
Ulysses, PA on Wednesday, March 20, 2019 from 10:00 a.m. – 12:00 Noon, with
Funeral Services following at 12:00 Noon.
Pastor Ann Jenkins will officiate.
Military Rites will be accorded by members of the Potter County Honor
