Allegany County Office of Planning Presents Third Revision of the Comprehensive Plan for Public Review and Comment

BELMONT – On Wednesday, the Allegany County Office of Planning presented the third revision of the county-wide Comprehensive Plan, titled “Our Vision, Our Mission: Outlook for 2030,” to the Planning & Development Committee. The document will now be open for a period of public review and comment until April 26.

Originally created and approved by the county legislature in 2008, Allegany County’s Comprehensive Plan provides a framework for growth and development objectives and strategies, and helps ensure appropriate provision of community services. It was developed using multiple outreach tools including surveys, public forums, and outreach to local governments.  Action areas encompassed in the 2019 revision of the Comprehensive Plan include Economic Development, Community and Rural Character, Infrastructure, and Government.

“This plan represents the work of the staff at the Planning Office over the last year, in conjunction with the Comprehensive Plan Committee appointed by the legislature,” said Kier Dirlam, Director of the Office of Planning.  “This latest revision of the Comprehensive Plan is significantly different from previous versions in a few ways, including text updates, reorganization of the content, graphic design and formatting, and revised data and maps. We are very pleased with insightful updates to the content of the plan and its engaging new look; we look forward to capturing the general public’s feedback and incorporating any improvements to the plan in the coming weeks.”

All 29 Towns and 10 Villages in Allegany County will receive hard copies of the Comprehensive Plan in the coming week and it will also be made available online at www.alleganyco.com for review by the public after Monday, March 25.  Comments, suggested changes, and additions should be sent to the attention of Kier Dirlam by email at dirlamhk@alleganyco.com or made via an appointment with the Office of Planning, which can be reached by phone at 585-268-7472.
