NYSDOT ANNOUNCES START OF REHABILITATION OF STATE ROUTE 19 BRIDGE OVER
PLUMBOTTOM CREEK IN BELMONT, ALLEGANY COUNTY
$800,000 Deck Replacement Will Improve Bridge on Main Artery through
Allegany County Seat
The New York State Department of Transportation today
announced that work is getting underway on an $800,000 deck replacement for the
concrete bridge carrying State Route 19 over Plumbottom Creek in the village of
Belmont, Allegany County between
Maple Street and John Street y. The bridge carries traffic to businesses, government
offices and historical sites in the county seat.
The project will replace the bridge’s concrete deck with
pre-stressed concrete beams and a polyester concrete overlay. The project also includes improvements for
pedestrians through the replacement of the sidewalk carried by this bridge. Significant construction is scheduled to
begin in April and continue through the fall.
Consistent with Governor Cuomo's Drivers First initiative,
the project has been designed to minimize impacts to the traffic on State Route
19. Vehicles and pedestrians will be
accommodated with staged construction controlled by traffic signals.
Assemblyman Joseph Giglio said: “I cannot emphasize enough the importance of
improvements to our infrastructure, especially projects that impact so many
residents and visitors. It is always gratifying when communities in my district
receive funding to improve bridges and roadways, so I am especially pleased
that the deck of this bridge in Belmont will be replaced to make travel safer
for both vehicles and pedestrians who use it for travel over Plumbottom Creek.”
