Original post:
A New York State trooper was shot and killed early this morning after responding to a call for a domestic dispute near Corning in Steuben County. The Troopers name has not officially been released. State police plan to hold a press conference at the Painted Post barracks this afternoon as soon as Governor Cuomo arrives (expected at about 1:45 p.m.).
Wellsville Regional News (WRN) has learned from numerous sources that the slain Trooper was from the Canisteo/Troupsburg area and was a 2011 Alfred University alum. The Trooper graduated from the 203rd session of the New York State Police Academy's Basic School in 2015. Media reports also say the suspect died as well.
Although WRN first received the news at 6:09 a.m., it could not be independently verified, so the story was withheld until three sources confirmed the information.
This is a developing story. As soon as the State Police officially release additional information, it will be posted as an update to this post.
