ELMIRA, N.Y. (18 NEWS) - Blue light bulbs may look like just an accessory, but this Friday night blue light bulbs will help commemorate Trooper Nicholas Clark.
"He was a younger trooper, less than three years on," Trooper Jason Sheridan, the New Police Benevolent Association Troop E Delegate, said. "All the reports are correct, happy guy, good guy, strong guy."
Trooper Clark lost his life on July 2nd after responding to a suicide call in the Town of Erwin. Like Trooper Clark, Trooper Sheridan is also from Troop E.
"Anytime we lose someone in the line of duty, it's traumatic for us all," He said.
Trooper Sheridan and the PBA are asking residents to replace their porch lights with a blue light. They're not alone in this initiative.
"I was contacted by Home Depot," Sheridan explained, "who said that they had some blue lights there they'd like to donate to us to help remember the fallen trooper."
"We were devastated and it hit extremely close to home for myself and my entire team at the Corning Home Depot," Sean Montgomery, the manager at the Corning Home Depot, said.
The Clark family are regular customers at that Home Depot. The store donated over 700 blue lights to Troop E troopers and Canisteo residents.
"We wanted to do something special to show remembrance to Trooper Clark," Montgomery said, "support for the Clark family, law enforcement and the community as a whole."
The goal, to never forget, but to continue someone's memory.
"I'm hoping that every time we happen to lose one of our own due to some sort of tragedy," Sheridan said, "we could do that to remember them by and maybe this will be the thing that starts that."
