Cuba: Grave injury in crash involving two tractor trailers UPDATED to fatal crash

On March 20, 2018 at 5:28 a.m., Troopers responded to a tractor trailer collision on I-86 eastbound in the town of Cuba.  Further investigation revealed that a 1987 Peterbilt was disabled partially in the roadway of I-86.  The Peterbilt operator, Kyle W. Willis, 41 of Dorset, OH was outside his vehicle attempting to make repairs when Willis and his Peterbilt were struck by a 2016 Freightliner traveling eastbound on I-86.  Willis was transported to Olean General Hospital where he succumbed to his injuries.
The Bureau of Criminal Investigation is still investigating this collision with the assistance of the NYSP Collision Reconstruction Unit, Commercial Vehicle Enforcement Unit.

Other agencies assisting with road closures and scene assistance, NYS DOT, Cuba Fire Company, New Hudson Fire Company and Friendship Fire Company.
This is still an ongoing investigation.

One person sustained massive trauma early this morning when a tractor trailer slammed in to another big rig in the eastbound lane of I-86 in Cuba. One person sustained grave injuries and was reported to be in traumatic cardiac arrest as he was transported to Olean General Hospital. State police had not confirmed as of 9:30 a.m. if the injuries were fatal. The driver of the other big rig did not sustain serious injuries. Early and unconfirmed reports indicated that the lead tractor trailer had been stopped and the driver was outside his vehicle when he was struck. One responder calls the scene "devastating." The Interstate was closed for several hours while state police examined the scene. This is an ongoing story...updates will be provide once state police issue a statement.
