Man accused of a series of burglaries in Steuben County

On January 11, 2018 Troopers arrested Matthew T. Stewart, age 45, of Springwater, N.Y, for Burglary, 2nd degree, a class “C” felony.  Stewart was arrested subsequent to an investigation in which a North Hornell resident reported that on two separate occasions, she noticed jewelry had been stolen from her residence.  During the course of the investigation, it was determined that Stewart was working in an adjoining residence for a flooring company based in western Steuben County, and during the course of that employment, he allegedly entered the adjacent residence on two occasions and stole jewelry.   Stewart was arraigned in the town of Hornellsville court and was remanded to the Steuben County Jail without bail.  The investigation has identified many additional victims, all of which may have also contracted with the same flooring company.  Anyone who believes they may have been a victim is asked to call Investigators of the New York State Police barracks at SP Wayland; phone 585-728-5007.
