As a registered voter and elections inspector, I look
forward to casting my ballot in a few weeks.
In addition to choosing representatives for local office, voters will be
asked to decide on three proposals that affect all New York residents.
According to Ballotpedia.org, highlights of the three
proposals are as follows:
• Proposal 1
would call for a constitutional convention to explore proposals for changes to
the state constitution.
• Proposal 2
would allow judges to reduce or revoke the state pension of a public officer
convicted of a felony related to his or her duties.
• Proposal 3
would create a 250-acre land bank, which would allow local governments to
request forest preserve land for projects in exchange for the state acquiring
250 acres for the forest preserves.
I am also a volunteer for PRO Allegany County, an
organization whose mission it is to protect and improve quality of life by
promoting civic engagement. We wish to
inform voters that these proposals will appear on the back of the ballot and
may, therefore, be accidentally overlooked.
It is important that voters know to look for these
proposals, but also that they are fully informed of the details of each before
casting their vote.
Ballotpedia provides comprehensive factual information about
the specifics of the proposals, including (but not limited to) the full text of
each measure, who supports and who opposes and their respective arguments, and
a history of how each proposal has come to appear on this year’s ballot.
PRO Allegany County meets monthly in Angelica. To learn more
