Belmont: Criss Market says it will close in December

Criss Market, 20 Schuyler Street, Belmont
Criss Market, a fixture in the Belmont community (and beyond), will close by the end of the year. A post on the Market's Facebook page says, "Criss market last day of doing business will be December 24th this year 2017." In a separate post four minutes later - "The building and parking lot and warehouse are for sale at the low price of $40,000.00. Owner financing is available to the right party with $10,000 down…All equipment for an additional $10,000.00. Also includes 3 apartments. Makes for payment $200.00 month and change."
In online comments, the company says
"Well hopefully somebody might want to carry on. She has made a very attractive offer to the community if somebody wants to try it."
Online comments have ranged from shock to sadness. The owners say they hope to do some traveling and fishing!
Criss Market has been in business since 1936, serving the area proudly for 81 years. Charlie Criss did indicate this afternoon that there has been considerable interest in the business in the past 24 hours. He said he will gladly work and assist someone if they want to keep the business going.
Editor's note: We wish them nothing but happiness.
