Cuba: Teacher charged with sexually abusing former student released from jail without bail
Thomas Wight, 26, of Cuba...the Arkport school teacher accused of sexually abusing a 16-year-old boy and former student, has been released from the Allegany County Jail without posting bail. On Tuesday, following his arrest, he was remanded to jail on $15,000 cash bail or $30,000 bond. Allegany County Probation Director Robert Starks confirmed today that Wight was released this morning "on his own recognizance, under supervision." He was released after the probation department conducted a pretrial review. The findings were submitted to a judge who allowed the release. Director Starks said Wight will be required to follow strict probation requirements. While Starks wouldn't say it's a common practice, he did say "each case is handled on an individual level." The restrictions will remain in place until altered by the court.
