WELLSVILLE — Walker Business & Staffing Services, Inc., is celebrating 25 years in the staffing business as a leading temporary staffing company in Wellsville and Olean and Bradford, Pa.
The business began because when Voni Walker returned to the area in 1992, she initially thought she would connect with a temporary job service. She was a corporate recruiter in Colorado, but she found the only services offered “here” were located in Olean.
Deciding to work out of her home, she placed a blind ad in the local newspaper for office/clerical employees and started contacting local businesses. Within a week, Walker had two clients — Embser’s and Air PreHeater, and two employees. By the end of the year, there were eight employees. Today, there are over 50 regular clients between the Wellsville, Olean and Bradford offices and over 600 employees. Her biggest client is the Stauffer Biscuit Co. in Cuba.
“They were our first big client and they still are,” she said.
In those early years, Walker, who is also a trained legal secretary, would go out on jobs herself if there were no employees to send. Read more...
