A car chase Friday night that started in Hornell, ended on State Route 19S in Stannards. At one point, police said speeds reached 112 mph. Hornell police, Andover police, state police, Allegany County deputies and Wellsville police at one point all joined the wild ride. The chase ended when the driver reportedly pulled into a driveway at 2020 State Route 19. A Hornell police car and an Allegany County Sherriff's vehicle were struck during the incident. Wellsville Ambulance was called to the scene to evaluate the driver, who was tased, and was later taken to Jones Memorial Hospital in handcuffs by police.
Police have identified the man as Kelly Baker, 47, of Route 19 in Wellsville. He's been charged with driving while intoxicated, BAC above .08%, speeding, failure to comply with police, drinking alcohol in a motor vehicle and other counts. Police said the chase began in Hornell when officers, participating in a DWI patrol, attempted to pull Baker's vehicle over and he gunned it.
Hornell police issued Baker appearance tickets for court and released. He was then taken to the Allegany County Jail where he's being held on numerous other charges.
