Bath Fire Dept. honors members

By John Conrad Sr.
On Tuesday night February 7th the Bath Volunteer Fire Department held its annual awards ceremony for the 2016 year. We are proud to announce the following recipients and thank all our members for their hard work and time spent away from their families to protect Bath and surrounding communities.
Firefighter of the Year - Glen Miller

Glenn’s successful grant writing skills provided the department with many full sets of turnout gear including coats, bunker pants, boots, helmets, gloves and bail out systems as well as air packs. He is also trying to receive funding to purchase a new aerial ladder truck which is desperately needed to replace our current one about to be 30 years old.
Glen is also the chairman of our training committee and always has a plan for each Tuesday night drill and involves our close neighboring departments as well.
Junior Firefighter of the YearHarry Keen

Harry spent countless hours helping the several new members that have come through our doors from showing them how to put on their turnout gear, to showing them where equipment is on the trucks. He is usually one of the first ones at the station on drill and meeting nights and the last one to leave. He worked hard last year as a lieutenant for the junior program and this year was selected for Quarter Master and the President for the junior program.

Firefly of the Year – Donna Keen

Donna is a vital presence of The Bath Volunteer Fire Department. Her many contributions to the department have included working Bingo and chicken barbeques, and of course washing lots of dishes after these events. She also contributes time to both the school and her church. She is busy with Band Boosters, Scouting, and the Centenary Youth group. She has a special passion for pet rescue and will drive miles and spend hours coordinating new places for these animals and making sure they go to just the right person. She is her sons Harry Jr. biggest cheerleader and now a proud grandmother.

Most Improved Junior Firefighter – Blake Jackson

Blake was chosen as the Most Improved Junior Firefighter after a very difficult decision due the hard work of all the veteran members stepping up to help several new members throughout the year and the many activities around the station. However Blake showed dedication last year as a Lieutenant for the Juniors and grew as an officer. His hard work for the betterment of the program and the department as a whole, earned him his election to the Captains position for the junior firefighters.
