Ossian woman accused of bilking Social Services


Ossian/Mount Morris: Livingston County Sheriff Thomas J. Dougherty reports the arrest of an Ossian resident on felony charges after a welfare fraud investigation. The investigation revealed that 30-year-old Emily J. Young was collecting public assistance benefits from the Livingston County Department of Social Services. Young allegedly failed to disclose rental income she was receiving from her roommate.  Young received $4,761 in public assistance benefits that she was not entitled to receive. She was subsequently charged with felonies of Welfare Fraud 3rd, Grand Larceny 3rd, Misuse of Food Stamps, and Falsifying Business Records 1st. The investigation was conducted by Sheriff's Investigator Josh Monster in conjunction with the Department of Social Services and the District Attorney's Office. Young was turned over to Central Booking Deputies at the Livingston County Jail for processing and pre-arraignment detention. Young was later arraigned in the Town of Mt. Morris before Judge Ossant. The Judge did release Young on her own recognizance.
