Independence: Former ambulance treasurer charged with grand larceny UPDATED

The former treasurer of the Independence Emergency Squad in Whitesville was arrested Tuesday. Scott A. Luce, 32, of Genesee, PA was charged with 3rd degree grand larceny, a class D felony. NY State Police Investigator John Zeigler said Luce is accused of stealing more than $10,000 from the ambulance service while he was in charge of managing the money. Inv. Zeigler said the alleged thefts occurred between December 2013 and October 2014. According to police, the ambulance service discovered "irregularities" which prompted them to call troopers in early 2016.
Luce was arraigned in Town of Willing court, where he was released on his own recognizance. His next court appearance will be June 14th in the Town of Independence court.
Luce is one of three Genesee Township Supervisors and is also the current treasurer at Genesee Ambulance.
UPDATE: Statement from Independence Police Chief P.J. Sherman: The Independence ambulance squad conducted an audit and determined the accounts were not accurate.  The squad's board then referred the case to the New York State Police BCI.
