New felony charges filed against Belfast man

On October 6, 2020, Joshua Maxwell, 40, of Belfast was arrested and charged with Burglary in the Second Degree (Class C Felony), Grand Larceny in the Fourth Degree (Class E Felony), and Criminal Mischief in the Fourth Degree (Class A Misdemeanor). The arrest is the conclusion of a yearlong investigation of a residential burglary that occurred on State Route 19A in the Town of Genesee Falls on October 22, 2019. Maxwell is accused of forcibly breaking into a home and stealing firearms and other property. On September 22, 2020, Wyoming County Sheriff Investigators with the assistance of New York State Police located Maxwell in possession of numerous items of stolen property. Investigators were able to recover two firearms belonging to the Genesee Falls victim. Maxwell was additionally charged with 5 separate counts of Burglary in the Second Degree by New York State Police for residential burglaries that were committed in Allegany County. Maxwell was arraigned and committed to jail on No Bail. He is to return to court at a later date. Maxwell is a four-time convicted felon, and now has 6 felony cases pending against him in Allegany County and 1 in Wyoming County.
