Alfred: IncubatorWorks Joins EPRI Incubatenergy Network of Clean Energy Incubators

Alfred, New York: IncubatorWorks is pleased to announce they have joined the Electric Power Research Institute’s (EPRI) Incubatenergy network of clean energy incubators.  The EPRI network’s mission is to accelerate the transition to a sustainable economy through multilateral coordination of incubator resources supporting entrepreneurs focused on clean energy innovation and deployment.

Clean energy technologies generate commercial benefits to customers while addressing environmental concerns, such as global climate change, sustainability, and energy security. This includes technologies that fall into the categories: renewable energy generation, energy storage, smart grid, efficiency (energy and building), and transportation.

IncubatorWorks has two facilities located in Corning and Alfred supporting the entrepreneurial ecosystem in the Southern Tier of New York State.  IncubatorWorks provides laboratory and office space below market value to new ventures and provides a variety of free support services to entrepreneurs and small business owners seeking to start or grow their businesses.

Nancy Kirby, IncubatorWorks Executive Director, stated, “We are honored to be invited to join this prestigious group to advance EPRI’s mission of growing clean energy startups.  Our close relationships with Corning Incorporated and Alfred University – two internationally respected leaders in the fields of technical ceramics and glass research – allows us to support early stage clean energy companies with a focus on materials science.  IncubatorWorks has a long history of supporting and graduating entrepreneurs who have contributed to this industry through materials research and new products that serve as the backbone of cutting-edge clean energy technology."

IncubatorWorks has ongoing partnerships with two clean energy incubators administered by the New York State Energy Research Authority (NYSERDA) created to attract high-growth cleantech companies to the state; the Koffman Southern Tier Clean Energy Incubator located in Binghamton, and Launch NY’s ECO Incubator in Buffalo.  The partnerships enable information sharing, access to IncubatorWorks technical and physical assets, collaboration on joint programs and events, and leveraging the assets and expertise at their respective regional colleges; the University @ Buffalo, Binghamton University, Alfred State College, and the Center for Advanced Ceramic Technology (CACT) at Alfred University.

“AU’s CACT is housed in our Alfred facility, and two of our staff mentors have served as Entrepreneurs in Residence for NYSERDA.  This in-house expertise, in combination with our collegiate and clean energy partnerships, allow us to attract innovative startups and build an ecosystem that will attract investment, create jobs, and lead to long-lasting positive impacts on our region’s economy” Kirby added.
