The resolution to form the Belmont Fire District was adopted
on Monday, August 10th, 2020. The resolution is subject to a permissive
referendum. A petition would have to be filed successfully with the Town Clerk
by Sept 9th 2020. There is a petition being passed by the Town Board.
If the resolution is petitioned successfully there will be a
public vote that will need to take place within a minimum of 90 days and a
maximum of 105 days from the date the petition is filed. If that happens there
is not enough time to get the district operational by January 1st 2021.
***THIS WILL MEAN ANOTHER YEAR OF INADEQUATE FUNDING FOR OUR
FIRE PROTECTION.***
We at the Belmont Fire Company INC. request that everyone
think long and hard before signing a petition against the Belmont Fire
District. Another year of inadequate funding is something we find unacceptable
and will have a significant impact on our public safety.
There is a public hearing set for September 14th 2020 at the
Town/Village hall. This is specifically for the dissolution of the current Fire
Protection District. The Dissolution would take place immediately upon the
Belmont Fire District formation slated for January 1st 2021.
