The New York State Department of Labor released the July
unemployment rates this week. In Allegany County, the jobless rate climbed to
12.1% in July…up two percentage points from June. Last month, 100 new jobs were
added in Allegany County, but it still lags way behind a year ago. According to the
Labor Department, the county employed 18,100 people in July 2019. However, that
number declined in July 2020 with 16,900 people employed. According to the
monthly state report, there were 2,300 people unemployed in July 2020, up 1.3%
from a year ago.
