ALFRED POLICE DEPARTMENT has undertaken training in implicit bias. All of the officers are mandated to take the training titled "Changing Perceptions." The four hour course covered defining implicit bias, with three modules focused on safe, effective and just decisions and behaviors.
All members of the APD took an eight hour course today. The course will help people understand how implicit biases make a difference in how we perceive things. It will also aid in developing fair and impartial policing to achieve even more effective policing. Tools will help people discover conscious and implicit biases while improving responses.
In September four officers will attend another training session in "First-Line Supervisor Training to reduce the potential for implicit bias in actions of supervisors.
