On August 12th, the Wellsville Village Board ordered a fire ravaged home at 35 North Broad Street be demolished. Officials say that within the 30 day limit under the order, the home was taken down and the debris hauled away. The property is owned by Michael and Marcia Dunn and Coudersport. Code Enforcement Officer Jo Fenske reported today that the "owner complied and did it himself." Fenske said Mike "stepped up to the plate and did it very well." During a public hearing, Dunn admitted the structure was unsafe but told the village he didn't have funds readily available for the demolition. During the hearing,
Mayor Randy Shayler said "it is however an unsafe
property...and you acquired it as such. With or without your knowledge, you
acquired an unsafe property and you effectively took responsibility for
it." "Again," Shayler said, "we feel for you."
Removing unsafe structures has been a new priority in the village. Fenske noted there are other dilapidated homes in the village that are currently under review.
