Jacob I. Colwell, 93, of Alma, NY, died Wednesday, September
25, 2019 in Fox Run at Orchard Park.
Born June 24, 1926, in Susquehanna, PA, he was the son of George R. and
Gladys Skinner Colwell. On February 25,
1961, in Shinglehouse, he married the former Betty Jane Stebbins, who survives.
A 1947 graduate of Susquehanna High School, he attended Penn State College and
was employed by the Erie Railroad. A
World War II, Korean War, and Vietnam War Veteran, he served honorably with the
US Navy from 1944 – 1974, discharged as a Master Chief Commissaryman. He earned six Good Conduct awards and the
Captain Edward F. Ney award in Guam. Jacob
was a member of the Wellsville American Legion, the Susquehanna Masonic Lodge,
the Shriners, the Navy Fleet Reserve, and the Shinglehouse United Methodist
Church. Surviving besides his wife,
Betty Jane, are: two daughters, Mary Ann
(Patrick) Dalton of Hamburg and Nancy (Richard) Middaugh of Alma; five grandchildren, Shawn Dalton, Shannon
Dalton, Jacob Middaugh, Nicholas Middaugh, and Kaylee Middaugh; two sisters, Janet (Ernest) Young of Cuyler
and Mary Jane Krissell of Vestal; two
brothers, Jesse Colwell of Susquehanna, PA and John (Beryl) Colwell of Vienna,
VA; nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was
predeceased by a sister, Georgia Donovan.
Friends may call Monday, September 30, 2019 from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. at
Mulholland-Crowell Funeral Home, Wellsville, NY, with Masonic Services at 7:30 p.m. Funeral Services will be held 2:00 PM,
Tuesday, October 1, 2019 in the Shinglehouse United Methodist Church,
Shinglehouse, PA. The Rev. Preston L.
Hutchins, Jr. will officiate. Burial
will be in Arlington National Cemetery.
