The Red Knights International Motorcycle Club New York 42 Chapter of Bath has been busy in 2019. Their donations for this year going to some area firefighters and families who had extreme needs, The Wounded Warrior Project, The Finger Lakes Regional Burn Association and to the Lawrenceville, PA Fire Department, have exceeded $12,000. The annual benefit club ride named The Bucket Brigade, benefitted The Wounded Warrior Project was held on July 13th.
This year’s ride was totally changed up with a new route, followed by food and entertainment by Corning area Payton Clark who sang and played acoustic guitar at The Bath Volunteer Fire Department. The ride had 130 motorcycles and approximately 200 people participating riding about 100 miles around the southern tier. After expenses a check was written to the Wounded Warrior Project totaling $2,850. To date $35,850 has been raise for the Wounded Warrior Project. On August 3rd the NY42 Chapter from Bath met up with Red Knights Chapters NY30 from Geneva, NY22 From Rochester and The Christian Riders to go to The Watson Homestead in East Campbell where The Finger Lakes Regional Burn Association puts on a camp for children who are burn victims named Camp Courage.
When the bikers roll into camp, the children’s eyes light up with excitement. After they parked, the children run around to take turns going for rides on all the different bikes. Then the children would pick someone to sit with them for a cookout where everyone had hot dogs and hamburgers and several of the campers shared their stories of how they were burned. One such story was a boy who said their house was on fire and their mother ran in and saved him and his brother and sister, but later died from the smoke inhalation and burns she suffered. Afterwards each group presented the director of the burn camp with checks for monies they raised for the burn association. This year NY Chapter 42 raised $5,400 with a chicken BBQ and raffles plus another $3,500 donation from The Sun Valley Campsites in Arkport, NY who wanted to help when they heard about our cause making a total of $8,900. To date now a total of $26,900 has been raised for The Finger Lakes Burn Association by NY Chapter 42. A check was also made out to the Lawrenceville, Pennsylvania Volunteer Fire Department for $250 to match a $250 check from The Bath Volunteer Fire Department after a devastating fire totally destroyed the Lawrenceville fire station. Miscellaneous donations were also made individually to a firefighter that lost his home to a fire in a neighboring town, a Corning firefighter who is fighting cancer, and to one of our own club members whose wife is battling cancer.
