Donald A. Phillips, Sr. “beloved father and grandfather”
ELDRED, Pa.---Donald A. “Don” Phillips, Sr., 81, of Eldred,
a former longtime resident of Shinglehouse, passed away in his home with his
loving son by his side on Thursday, July 11, 2019, after a long illness.
Born on Monday, August 23, 1937 in Olean, N.Y., he was a son
of Donald F. and LeOtta Prince Phillips.
On March 15, 1980 in Springville, N.Y., he married Nancy L. Lunn, who
passed away on July 29, 2011.
Don was a graduate of Shinglehouse High School, Class of
1955. After high school, he was employed
by Interstate Creameries in Cortland, N.Y.
He was drafted into the U.S. Army, serving in Germany during the Cold
War. After serving his country, Don was
then employed in Niagara Falls, N.Y. by DuPont.
He then was employed by Winfield Lanphere Drilling in Shinglehouse, and
lastly by Richard Terwiliger Pump Service in Addison, N.Y. until his
retirement.
Don enjoyed hunting, model trains and cars.
Surviving are four sons, Donald Allen “DJ” Phillips, Jr. of
Eldred, Michael Phillips of Florida, Wade A. (Lana) Hathaway of New York, N.Y.,
and Deane A. (Lori) Hathaway of Friendship, N.Y.; several grandchildren; and a
nephew.
In addition to his parents and wife, Don was predeceased by
a sister, Marcia Majot.
In keeping with Don’s wishes, there will be no public visitation. A celebration of his life will be held on a
date and time to be announced. Burial
will be in East Sharon Cemetery, Shinglehouse.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Cole Memorial
Home Health and Hospice, 102-108 South Main Street, Coudersport, PA 16915.
Don’s family has entrusted his care and cremation
arrangements to Kevin J. Dusenbury, funeral director/owner of the Virgil L.
Howard Funeral Home, Shinglehouse.
