BATH – Local organizers of the annual Tyrtle Beach campaign report $38,559 has been raised for youth programs in central Steuben County during the annual fundraiser April 26. The announcement was made by a key organizer WVIN-FM Monday. The 27th plunge into Lake Salubria featured the Avenger duo of Michael and Tuesday Mishook and took place during near-record winds. County Youth Bureau Coordinator Bill Caudill said the fundraiser will support 85 youth programs and organizations. Benefiting youth programs include Boy- and Girl Scout troops, 4-H clubs, church youth groups, library summer reading programs, little league baseball and softball programs, art and music programs, and others. Since it was launched in 1992 after an on-air joke by WVIN-FM radio personality David Taylor Smith, the event has now raised almost $740,000 for youth programs.
