Steuben County offers roadside clean-up weeks

BATH - For the 20th straight year all cities, villages and towns in Steuben County have been invited to participate in the county Landfill’s "Roadside Cleanup Weeks." The annual roadside cleanup allows municipalities to bring as much as 20 tons of garbage and 10 tons of tires to the landfill on Turnpike Road free of charge. Cleanup weeks are scheduled for two weeks during the year and are held for roadside cleanup -- not for house-to-house pickup. Liquid wastes and hazardous wastes will not be accepted.
Garbage and tires must be delivered to the landfill in municipal trucks and weighed in at the landfill entrance: · Separate the tires, appliances and scrap metal. · Remove tire rims. · Metal containers greater than 2.5 gallons must have the ends cut off and be crushed.
The event has been approved by the county Legislature.
