In the
relatively short time that I have known Walt Mackney, I have quickly come to
harbor a tremendous amount of respect for his integrity, character, grace, and
knowledge of law enforcement. Having grown up in a law enforcement family and
continuing in my close relationships with many law enforcement officers, Walt
almost immediately struck me as the embodiment of those officers I loved and
respected most growing up and continue to respect to this day. Walt’s
respectful demeanor and effective communication skills are as good as they
come.
As a local
pastor and police chaplain, my observations lead me to conclude that Walt is a
professional with strong moral character and faith. He has included me in his
community outreach, training courses, and campaign and has welcomed my prayers
and spiritual input. It is so important that an office as critical as Sheriff
be filled with someone who has outstanding character and integrity and who is
aware that he or she is accountable to a divine power beyond what human
agencies can invent. I believe that Walt is that person and that he will serve
with the kind of love and respect that our loving Creator demands.
I have seen
the respect that Walt commands in the presence of other law enforcement
officers. It is astounding to see the level of honor he receives from every
agency and every rank. At the same time, I have observed how respectfully and
kindly he approaches the citizens he serves. I have had the privilege of taking
part in active shooter training and firearms courses which he has led and have
been astonished with the way he is able to connect with citizens and clearly
communicate ideas. It is difficult for me to know what impresses me most; his
admiration and respect among colleagues or his connection with the public. His
knowledge of law enforcement, criminal trends, and local needs is
unprecedented. There is no doubt in my mind that he has what it takes to lead
even our nations largest and most elite agencies. Allegany County is truly blessed to have such
a competent Law Enforcement officer in our midst. I believe that Walt is, hands
down, the best candidate for Sheriff.
I have
absolute confidence that a Sheriff Mackney will offer our county the Law
Enforcement methods and cooperation between agencies and the public that we
deserve. Walt offers the insight and professionalism that Allegany County needs
to look forward to realizing the potential that we have of becoming one of the
most desirable places to live, work, and play in the State of New York. I look
forward to seeing the innovation that he brings to law enforcement in our
region. Walt Mackney has my vote for Sheriff. I hope he has yours as well.
