Steuben County woman accused of issuing $38,000 in fruadulent checks



The New York State Police in Troop “E”, S.P. Bath announce the arrest of Erica M. Bacon, 26, from Bath, N.Y. Bacon was arrested on December 13th 2017, following an investigation in to an alleged bank fraud case occurring in Steuben County. It is alleged that Bacon issued approximately $38,000, in fraudulent personal checks to various persons, businesses, and government entities throughout the Steuben County area. Bacon then reported her checks to her bank and the New York State Police as being stolen and fraudulently cashed by another party.
Bacon was charged with Grand Larceny third degree (felony), Scheme to Defraud first degree (felony), Making a false Written Statement (misdemeanor), and six counts of Offering a False Instrument for Filling (misdemeanors). Following her arrest, she was arraigned in the town of Bath court and released on her own recognizance by Hon. Justice Chauncey Watches, to reappear on January 3, 2018.
The New York State Police where assisted in this investigation by the Corning City Police Department, Hornell City Police Department, Canisteo Village Police Department, Steuben County Probation Department, and TD Bank Fraud Investigation Unit.
