BATH – Law enforcement in Steuben County rounded up a couple
dozen likely kids and escorted them Thursday (Dec. 7) to the Kmart in Bath for
their third annual “Shop with a Cop” party. Children were transported by the
Bath Central School to the county Public Safety Building to meet law officers
from the county sheriff, village of Bath, state troopers and state Department
of Environmental Conservation.
After a tour of official vehicles, the children were treated
to a police escort to Kmart where they shopped for gifts under the kindly eyes
of the law. Upon their release, they were conveyed back to the Public Safety
Building to enjoy a buffet of food and wrap their gifts. The project was funded
through participation in “No-shave November” and private donations. “What a
fantastic opportunity for children who have only interacted with law enforcement
in a crisis situation to enjoy such a positive experience,” county Sheriff Jim
Allard said. “My thanks to our partners at the Village of Bath Police
Department, New York State Police, New York State Department of Environmental
Conservation Police and Arbor Development for their support and participation.
It was a truly amazing event.”
