Allegany County Heroin and Opioid Ad-Hoc Committee to hold events

On behalf of Legislator Judy Hopkins, please join us on Thursday, October 26, 2017, for two (2) special events sponsored by the Allegany County Heroin and Opioid Ad-Hoc Committee. Both events are free of charge and we welcome your assistance in informing colleagues, friends and family members about these important sessions! Allegany County Heroin and Opioid Ad-Hoc Strategic Sharpening Session
In lieu of October Workgroup Meetings, please join us for the Allegany County Heroin and Opioid Ad-Hoc Strategic Sharpening Session from 1:00-4:00 p.m., at the Crossroads Commerce and Conference Center, Route 19N, Belmont, NY. We will welcome special guests Erie County Executive Mark C. Poloncarz and Erie County Commissioner of Health Dr. Gail Burstein as they join us to present a workshop entitled A Regional Perspective and Response to the Heroin and Opioid Crisis. In addition, we will review accomplishments of the last 6-months and take a moment to look ahead and plan for the next 6-months. The Hungry Heart Community Education Forum
All community members are invited to attend the first viewing of The Hungry Heart and Allegany County’s Voices of Addiction, sponsored by the Allegany County Heroin and Opioid Ad-Hoc Committee’s Prevention and Recovery Workgroups, on Thursday, October 26, 2017, from 6-8:30 p.m., at the David A Howe Library, North Main Street, Wellsville, New York 14895. If your organization would like to host an informational table at the event, please contact Helen Evans at 585-593-5223, ext. 1011. This event is supported by the Wellsville BPO Elks, Wellsville Lions Club, and by a private donation from Legislator Kevin LaForge, District IV. Please come to show your support!

Hepatitis C - Dinner Conference
On November 13, 2017, pharmacists, physicians, nurses, and dentists are invited to a dinner conference at the Beef Haus, North Main Street, Wellsville, NY that will feature representatives from the NYSDOH Clinical Education Initiative; a program of Mount Sinai Institute for Advanced Medicine. Attached is the invitations flyer that can be shared with providers in your community. Please feel free to print and distribute. Continuing education credits will be awarded for attendance. Topics include:
 
Treatment for Hepatitis C: New Tests, New Drugs, and New Recommendations   
Learning Objectives:
1. Explain the epidemiology of the hepatitis C virus (HCV).
2. Discuss laboratory testing and diagnosis of HCV infection.
3. Design a therapeutic regimen and monitoring plan for the treatment of HCV.

Naloxone: Preventing Opioid Overdose in the Community
Learning Objectives:
1. Discuss the epidemiology of opioid overdose.
2. Identify how to avoid, recognize, and act on opioid overdoses.
3. Discuss the role and safety of prescribing and distributing naloxone.

Homebound Drug Pick-Up Program
The Allegany County Heroin and Opioid Prevention Ad-Hoc Committee announced today that in an effort to make it easier for individuals to dispose of unused or expired medicines for safe disposal, the Allegany County Office for the Aging and Allegany County Sheriff’s Office are partnering to launch the new Mobile Prescription Drug Pick-Up Program. Starting in August, Friendship, New York, seniors and other homebound residents can call the Allegany County Office for the Aging at 585-268-9390 and request an appointment for a deputy to make a house call to collect medication, which are destroyed. Additional townships will be added throughout the year.
