Wellsville PD has new radar speed trailer

Those present for the unveiling of the trailer (from L-R) are Roger Moyer and Mark Finn from the Lions Club, Brian Cannon from the Ancient Order of Hibernians, Jerome Hart from Hart Brothers and Sons Memorials, Brad Whitford from L.C. Whitford Co., Erik Potter from the Wellsville Volunteer Ambulance Corps., and Jimmy and Vinny Joyce from Certified Safety Products of NY.
The Wellsville Police Department was able to acquire a Radar Speed Trailer through generous donations from local businesses and charitable organizations.  The project, which was overseen by Sergeant Chad Green, enabled the purchase of the solar powered trailer which will serve as a reminder for motorists to mind their speed while traveling throughout the Village.  The goal is to make the Village streets safer for pedestrians, bicyclists and other motorists by raising awareness of driver’s speed. The trailer is also capable of providing valuable traffic data.  The police are able to download information collected by the trailer which includes the total number of vehicles that pass by the sign, peak traffic times, average and peak traffic speeds, etc.  The data will be used to assist with patrol strategies and can provide traffic counts to the Department of Public Works which can assist them in reporting and paving efforts.  Those who donated to the project include the Wellsville Lions Club, Wellsville Volunteer Ambulance Corps, Village of Wellsville Independent Energy Efficiency Program, L.C. Whitford Company, Allegany County District Attorney’s Office, Arvos Group-Ljungstrom Division, Alfred State College, Ancient Order of Hibernians-The Irish Brotherhood of the Trinity, Hart Brothers and Sons Memorials, Law Office of Hutter & Finn, Certified Safety Products of NY, J.W. Embser Sons Funeral Home and an anonymous donor.
