Livingston County: Felony Charges Following Seriously Injured Baby


SPRINGWATER - Sheriff Thomas J. Dougherty reports the arrest of a Springwater man after a Sheriff’s Office criminal investigation into child abuse. Matthew Sackett, 22, was arrested on February 15 on charges of Assault in the First Degree, a class B Felony, and also Reckless Assault of a Child, a class D Felony. It is alleged through the investigation that Sackett assaulted  a 22 week old child causing multiple skull fractures and multiple broken ribs.  The child is at Strong Hospital. Sackett was turned over to Central Booking Deputies at the Livingston County Jail for processing and pre-arraignment detention. The District Attorney’s Office provided a bail recommendation of $75,000 cash or $150,000 bond. Caseworkers with Child Protective Services (CPS) at the Livingston County Department of Social Services assisted with the investigation and continue to remain active in this case.  Sackett was arraigned later on February 15th in Springwater Town Court before Justice Haywood.  The Judge remanded Sackett to the custody of the Sheriff on $75,000 cash bail or $150,000 bond.    Sackett remains held at the Livingston County Jail.
