Chaotic police chase goes in and around Wellsville

It can be described as nothing less than chaotic. It was a wild and crazy state police chase Sunday that began in Wellsville and circled, and circled. According to the state police blotter, at 8:43 p.m. Sunday, they had a report of a reckless driver. According to police audio obtained by Wellsville Regional News, there was a trooper who stopped a vehicle on Field Street in Wellsville. Others were on the way... Here are the bullet points:

  • Traffic stop on Field Street in Wellsville around 9 p.m. Sunday.
  • The trooper told dispatch the white color car "fled."
  • The chase, which reached 90 mph ran over Niles Hill, into Petrolia and back to the Bolivar Road.
  • The incident then entered the village zig-zagging around village streets.
  • A State Police Supervisor called off the chase in the interest of public safety when the driver screamed down Main Street with no regard to for traffic signals. Village police immediately complied.
Chief O'Grady said that on Tuesday several troopers were at a home on North Brooklyn Avenue in Wellsville.
Wellsville Police Chief Tim O'Grady confirmed Wednesday morning that village officers assisted the state police and to their knowledge he was headed to a potential probation or prison term.
The story grabbed the attention of Facebook users. State Police Public information Officer Tpr. James O’Callaghan provided no comment Wednesday.
