Shirley F. GRILLO, 82, of Belmont, NY, passed away Wednesday, March 19, 2025 in Jones Memorial Hospital, Wellsville.
Born May 22, 1942, in Syracuse, she was the daughter of Neil S. and Mary F. Dugan Cline. On May 31, 1958, in Hornell, she married Joseph Grillo, Sr., who predeceased her on December 16, 1972. Raised in Wellsville, she attended Wellsville High School. She continued her education at Alfred State College, earning an associate’s degree in liberal arts. She was employed by The Sunset Restaurant as a waitress, Harvey-Carey Drug Store in Hornell, and was manager of the Amity Trailer Park in Belmont.
Outside of work, she was a member of St. Ann’s Catholic Church, American Legion Auxiliary Unit 440, VFW Auxiliary, and Women of the Moose, all in Hornell. Shirley was an avid fan of the Cowboys, Yankees, and enjoyed hunting. She made time to visit and make phone calls to her family and many friends. If she knew someone was having troubled times, a happy life event, had a sick family member, were traveling, or going to have inclement weather, she would call. She would even call when there was a good sale at the grocery store. With that said, Shirley called at least one of her family every day to tell them she loved them and how proud she was of them and to be safe. She never forgot a birthday and always made sure family received a card and phone call. Her love for her children and grandchildren was unconditional. Those are the kinds of things her family will miss the most.
Surviving are: two sons, Joseph (Pamela) Grillo Jr. of Brockport and Jack (Kelly) Grillo of Arkport; five grandchildren, Rushel (Jermey Garrison) Grillo, Cori Grillo, Matthew (Megan) Grillo, Emily (Bryce Ingalls) Henry, and Darcy S. (fiancé Allison Henby) Henry; three great-grandchildren, Olivia, Harper, and Ziggy; a sister, Bonnie Cartwright; as well as several nieces and nephews. In addition to her husband of 14 years, she was predeceased by a daughter-in-law, Robyn Grillo; five brothers; and three sisters.
A private graveside service will be held in St. Mary’s Cemetery in Fremont on a later date.
Memorials may be made to Allegany County Office for the Aging, 6085 NY-19, Belmont, NY 14895.
