Criminal Justice Reform: Allegany County DA says ' this was the worst week of his professional career'

The is from the Allegany County Public Safety Committee meeting held on January 8th:

Legislator Harris asked how the last week has gone. District Attorney Keith Slep stated that this was the worst week of his professional career and it is not getting any better. Mr. Harris asked if Mr. Slep could explain his statement. Mr. Slep stated that this is a task that cannot be fulfilled by his department because their hands are tied. Mr. Harris went on to ask if there were arrests made due to the short-term discovery. Mr. Slep stated that it was too soon for this to take place and that it would probably be a few months down the road. Mr. Harris asked how the software process was going and have the errors smoothed out. Mr. Slep stated that the system crashed on the first day and now there are several encrypted files. Legislator Harris also asked what would be the best way that our County can proactively track these cases. Mr. Slep stated that he felt it would be difficult as there are different statistics kept by different agencies and this would make it difficult to track.
