Wellsville: Town Board not ready to commit to relocation

The Wellsville Town Board isn't ready to pack up its belongings and move out of the Municipal Building...yet. During a Board meeting Wednesday night, Supervisor Shad Alsworth said they weren't "being closed-minded," but the town is continuing to pursue other options.
When the former Burrous Building was sold to a developer and rebranded as 23 North, the goal was to have apartments on the second and third floors with government offices on the ground floor. However, some new developments have caused the village to pause on its relocation thoughts. Alsworth said the town won't act until the village, at least, commits to leaving the Municipal Building.

Madison Street Bridge
Plans are moving forward to replace the Madison Street bridge. While there are questions about what entity actually owns and is responsible for the span, the town board voted to split ,with the village, the local share of $19,290. County and state funds will cover the rest of the $2 million project.

Assessor
Two key pieces of news involve the Assessor's Office. First, a committee formed to select a new town assessor has made a selection. The committee recommended to the town board that it appoint Timothy J. Dannheim to the post. The Board may take action on the appointment next month.
In addition, the Town of Wellsville announced that its working on a seven-town plan to share Wellsville's Assessor. Supervisor Alwsworth said if the other towns come on board, there will be "significant savings for every town." Towns considering joining the consortium are Alma, Andover, Amity, Friendship, Independence and Willing. If the details can be worked out, the contracts would begin October 1st. The towns would all have access to the Wellsville Assessor five days a week and would pay a per parcel fee.
