July 2018 Report
Office of Planning Projects:
A. General Planning:
• There is no County Planning Board meeting scheduled for tonight July 18, 2018.
• The Town and Village of Almond boards are currently reviewing their draft Comprehensive Plan. Meeting with them this month to discuss any changes and procedures for approval.
• Held the training workshop on SEQR with NYMIR for the Planning Board and had about 30 people attend.
B. Shared-Services:
• Reviewed and submitted comments on the Draft Plan to CGR.
• Have held conference calls with CGR regarding the progress they are making on the plan and approvals.
• The draft plan was posted to the County website and we notified Towns and Villages of the availability of the draft.
• A Public Hearing was held on June 26 6PM at BOCES with relatively limited attendance. The next Public Hearings are scheduled for August 13 10AM and 3PM at the legislative chambers.
C. GIS [Geographic Information System]:
• We have been working very hard on the LUCA project. We were notified on June 29th that we had a short extension to get our data in to July 17th. By the time of this meeting we should have already submitted this data.
• Have responded to requests for various maps during the month.
• Have implemented a trial period program with EagleView to make Pictometry available to County Departments and the Towns/Villages staff, Fire, Police, etc. If funding in our current budget allows we will extend this service for one year.
D. Administrative
• Reviewed audits for Planning, Development and Tourism as well as Payroll.
• Completed preparation of the 2019 Budgets for Development and Planning Departments.
• Angela McKay started on July 9, 2018 as the Assistant Director of Economic Development and Planning.
• Met with Summer Intern through Employment & Training, started July 9th.
E. Meetings
• Presented at the Planning & Economic Development Committee.
• Participated in Website Update Conference Calls and the ADA compliance conference calls.
• Met with Southern Tier West for review of the Appalachian Regional Commission applications. We had 13 applications present to the Board. Allegany County was well represented in this year’s applications.
• Prepared for and attended Comprehensive Plan Implementation Group meeting.
• Prepared for and attended the Comprehensive Plan Review Committee meeting.
Development Projects:
A. County Website:
• Received estimates from Mason Digital and Equatek and approved them to move forward with the Tourism website transition process.
• Participated in conference calls to discuss the County website and the Tourism migration.
B. Business Development
• Craig Clark and the Economic Development Steering Committee continued efforts on Maker City. They have identified a handful of priority projects that we are starting to work on.
• Met with the owner of an available facility/building that is interested in assistance in filling the facility.
• EDA Project Priorities: Need Committee approval of the top two projects for EDA priority list. Recommended top 2 projects for this year are [does not require a resolution of the board]:
o Crossroads Development Infrastructure Project and o The Alfred Center for Technology Transfer Project.
