Wellsville: Driver charged after crashing into building

Wellsville Police Chief Tim O'Grady issued this statement to Wellsville Regional News Sunday morning:
Kyle Ritter, age 27, of Wellsville was arrested for Driving While Intoxicated, Speed Not Reasonable and Prudent, Passing a Flashing Red Light, Moving From Lane Unsafely, Leaving the Scene of Personal Injury Accident and Uninspected Motor Vehicle, following an early morning crash on Feb 18. According to police and witnesses, at about 1:30a.m. Ritter was traveling eastbound at an unsafe speed on Madison St. He failed to stop for the traffic signal at the Main St. intersection, lost control of his vehicle and struck a building located at 20 Madison St. This caused the vehicle to roll over and come to rest near the entrance of the municipal parking lot. Upon police arrival, Ritter had freed himself from the vehicle and was fleeing the accident scene.  Ritter and his passenger were transported to UR Jones Memorial Hospital by Wellsville Ambulance and treated for minor injuries. Ritter was issued traffic tickets to appear in Village Court on Feb 28th and released to a third party.  Additional charges are pending.
