Land rescue reported near Whitesville/Steuben County

Statement from Wellsville EMS/Rescue issued March 7th:

Wellsville Rescue on Friday was dispatched into Steuben County to assist Whitesville Fire and Independence Emergency Squad in the Town of West Union for a patient fallen at the bottom of a ravine.

Wellsville Rescue 1 responded with 4 rope technicians and a Paramedic.
Wellsville Rescue 2 and 3 Responded with additional crew and an additional Paramedic.
Crews worked on scene to extricate the patient using rope systems, rigging and our off road rescue vehicle.
The patient was transferred to the care of Independence EMS for transport to a hospital.
Thank you to the 12 members that responded and assisted, also thank you to the crews that ensured our EMS remained staffed and ready to respond if needed.

Allegany County Fire Coordinator Bill Day Jr. responded as did District Coordinator Brian Smith (on his birthday).
The patient was transported to UR Jones Memorial in Wellsville and no air medical support was required. According to First Responders, on-scene conditions were icy, difficult and challenging.
