Houghton University to Present Alumni Awards

During its Homecoming and Family Weekend (October 4-5, 2024), Houghton University will honor five prestigious alumni with awards recognizing their outstanding contributions to their professions, their communities, their alma mater and the Church.

In the annual Legacy Chapel, Houghton University President Wayne D. Lewis, Jr. will present awards to Dr. P. Douglas ’62 and Mrs. Barbara (Pechuman ’62) Kindschi, Mr. David Causer ’74, Dr. Jordan Scott ’17 and Dr. James Rogan II ’83.

Dr. and Mrs. Kindschi, of Grand Rapids, Michigan, will be named Alumni of the Year, recognizing their lifetime of work to advance interfaith cooperation and dialogue through the Kaufman Interfaith Institution at Grand Valley State University and through their commitment in matters of justice through the funding of Houghton’s annual Kindschi Faith and Justice Symposium.

“We are grateful for the blessings of family, friends, and church communities over the 62 years of our marriage,” remarked the Kindschis. “We have experienced much joy and many challenges along the way. It is a pleasure to know that Houghton's approach continues to prepare students for the ever-changing needs of our world, while maintaining a solid Christian foundation undergirding their spiritual growth. We are grateful for the impact Houghton has had on our lives and honored by our selection as Alumni of the Year.”

Mr. Causer, of Nashville, Tennessee, will be presented with the Alumni Distinguished Achievement Award for his lengthy, successful career with Southwestern Advantage, where he currently serves as President. The award will also recognize Mr. Causer’s dedication to the promotion of principled, business ethics training to college students from around the world.

Dr. Jordan Scott, of Buffalo, New York, will be recognized as the 2024 Young Alumnus of the Year for his remarkable work as a clinical pharmacist at Roswell Park Comprehensive Cancer Care Center, as well as his active engagement in the life of his alma mater.

“Houghton University was crucial in setting me up to become the best professional I can be,” remarks Scott. “At Houghton, I learned the essential skills for a career in pharmacy, while simultaneously building my faith in Jesus Christ. I would not be the pharmacist, husband, brother and son I am today without Houghton University.”

Dr. Rogan, of Tell City, Indiana, will receive the third FEARLESS Award in recognition of his generosity by fostering, supporting and mentoring young men from the foster care system and those with troubled backgrounds, inspiring them to pursue higher education and careers, including two who attended Houghton to follow in Dr. Rogan’s footsteps to pay it forward and serve others as physicians.

Houghton University’s annual Legacy Chapel will take place on October 4, 2024 at 11:00 am in the John and Charles Wesley Chapel on the campus of Houghton University in Allegany County, New York. The event is open to the pubic and friends, family, former classmates and colleagues are invited to campus to celebrate these remarkable Houghton graduates.
